Paul O'Connell found guilty of punching Robert Sidoli |
Ireland lock Paul O'Connell has been banned for two weeks after being found guilty of punching during Saturday's RBS Six Nations clash against Wales. But O'Connell will be free to play for Munster in the Heineken Cup tie against Biarritz on 3 April.
Meanwhile, the citing of Italy's Salvatore Perugini in making a reckless tackle during the game against France in Rome was not upheld.
Perugini is now free to continue playing with immediate effect.
Perugini allegedly drove into the French winger with a swinging arm.
Dominici was stretchered off in a neck brace and immediately taken to hospital.
O'Connell was cited by French commissioner Paul Mauriac for punching Wales second row Robert Sidoli during the game which Wales won 32-20 to clinch the Grand Slam.
But the three-man independent disciplinary committee, which was chaired by Lorne Crerar (Scotland) and included Jeff Probyn and Bob Taylor (both England), heard the citation and found O'Connell guilty of punching.
O'Connell said: ''I am both relieved and happy that the process is now over and the hearing that I received was fair in its decision.''
''The two week suspension that Paul received I believe is a fair outcome in terms of what took place during the incident,'' said Irish coach Eddie O'Sullivan.
''It was a fair hearing and both he and I are happy that justice has been done.''
