Stars to kick off Newquay rugby

A host of former England and British Lions players will help start July's Newquay Surf Sevens international rugby tournament.

Names such as Tim Stimpson, Ben Clarke, and Luke Narraway will play in the Classic Lions v Newquay Hornets President's XV match on Friday 18 July.

Amongst the top sevens sides competing on Saturday are the 2008 Amsterdam Sevens winners Samurai International.

And on the Sunday there is a UK clubs and a pub sevens event taking place.

"More than 60 teams will compete within five separate tournaments catering for all standards," said tournament director Andy Hawken.

"From the best seven-a-side rugby teams in the country - more used to playing in the renowned Hong Kong or Dubai competitions - to local club sides and other teams from all over the UK, both men and women," he said.

The event has �10,000 worth of prize money available with �12,000 expected to be raised for the Wooden Spoon charity.
