Palea'aesina tries to stay upbeat

Wigan prop Iafeta Palea'aesina insists the ailing Warriors can save themselves from Super League relegation.

Saturday's 10-8 loss to Wakefield means they are now five points adrift of their nearest relegation rivals Harlequins at the foot of the table.

"We can definitely stay up. Our coach Brian Noble is very positive," said New Zealand international Palea'aesina.

"Obviously it's hard being at the bottom of the table but you've just got to hold your heads up."

The outcome of Saturday's game hinged on a decision by video referee Steve Presley to disallow a last-minute try from Pat Richards.

The Wigan winger appeared to lose the ball in full-back Colum Halpenny's tackle before touching down.

Noble thought the try should have been awarded, but Palea'aesina refused to blame the referee.

"We had opportunities before that to get the points," he said. "There are no excuses. Once again, we fell short.

"Our kicking was a bit off, there is more work to do, it's just disappointing. We do it at training but, come game time, we're not delivering on the pitch.

"However, we've got 14 games left and that's plenty of games to get out of it."
