Millward keen to stay in England
Ian Millward will not return as boss at St Helens
Ian Millward wants to continue his coaching career in England after being sacked as St Helens coach last week.

The 44-year-old Australian has vowed to clear his name after being dismissed for gross misconduct and he insists his future lies in English rugby league.

"My first preference would be to stay here in England," Millward told BBC Radio Five Live. "I'm very settled.

"My family's here and I've got some really good friends who have really come to the fore in this saga."

Millward was shown the door at Knowsley Road after being charged by the club with using foul language on three separate incidents.

I just hope he receives greater support than I did

The Australian coach then lost an appeal against his dismissal last Thursday.

He has since been linked with a return home to coach in the NRL and has already been connected to struggling side St George Illawarra.

But Millward, who took over at St Helens in 2000, is staying focused on issues in the Super League and has already had some words of advice for new Saints boss Daniel Anderson.

"I just hope he receives greater support than I did," Millward said.

"In a situation after a period of long service and loyalty, I think everyone deserves that. I just hope he gets that better."
