Waite took temporary charge in December |
Former Great Britain coach David Waite has ruled himself out of the running to take charge of the Catalans Dragons on a permanent basis. Despite helping the Super League newcomers to a dream start with an opening day win over Wigan, Waite insists he is not the man for the job.
"David has still not changed his thoughts about being coach," said chief executive Grant Mayer.
"He's not interested. He wants to be director of football."
Waite has been caretaker coach since the sacking of Steve Deakin just before Christmas, after initially joining the Dragons as director of football.
But despite the Perpignan club's memorable 38-30 debut victory under his guidance, Waite is not on the Dragons' shortlist of prospective coaches.
"There are three very good candidates and we'd be lucky to get any one of them," said Mayer.
"Out of the three, there are two that we can't split. It comes down to their situations because all of them are currently employed but we are not going to rush anything."
