Giorgio Rocca put in a strong second run to win the World Cup slalom race at Madonna di Campiglio in Italy. The Italian was in a tie for third after the first run but held his nerve on the second to win in a combined time of one minute, 32.26 seconds.
Benjamin Raich of Austria, who led after the first run, was second, 0.25 seconds behind, while Kalle Palander of Finland was third, 0.89 back.
Overall World Cup champion Bode Miller was eliminated after straddling a gate.
Briton Alain Baxter was 44th, from a start bib of 53, after the first run and was not in the quickest 30 skiers to contend the second run.
