Bowers joined the Basingstoke Bison from Milton Keynes last summer |
Slough Jets have added British forward Ross Bowers to their squad. Bowers, 23, handed in his notice at Elite League side the Basingstoke Bison two weeks ago, and has signed for the Jets until the end of the season. Bowers joins fellow young Briton Jamie Line, who moved from Bracknell earlier in the month, as injured player-coach Steve Moria strengthens his squad. Meanwhile, local rivals Bracknell have released 33-year-old Czech import forward Roman Kelner. Kelner had initially struggled to find form for the Bees and, although recent performances had been encouraging, the club have taken the option to release him. It is expected that Bracknell will move to bring in reinforcements before the end of January. | I didn't think we could bring Ross to Slough, but we have fantastic supporters putting in money | Bowers will replace Moria, who suffered ligament damage in a game at Telford earlier in the month, in the Jets' forward line as they try to turn around a recent run of poor results. ""Ross will help in a variety of ways," Moria told BBC Sport. "He's a physical player plus he can score goals. I've seen him when he was at Milton Keynes and I highly rate him. "From an offensive point of view we've relied on two players (Moria and Joe Ciccarello) to score 70% of our goals. "Joe's on his own while I'm out and he's going to be marked closely so we need people to start scoring." Bowers had contacted the Jets having handed in his notice at Basingstoke two weeks ago, expressing his desire to join Slough. "I didn't think we could bring Ross to Slough because of the financial situation," said Moria. "But we've got this consortium of supporters putting in money. "They are passionate about the game and they put together enough money. It's incredible. Since I've been in Slough it's been fantastic the way the supporters have been. "It shows how passionate they are about ice hockey, they love their game." Bowers has plenty of Premier League experience having played for Milton Keynes Lightning prior to joining Basingstoke in the summer of 2008. He is expected to make his debut at home to Swindon on Saturday.
