Telford Tigers have called on the English Premier League to check on clubs over-extending their budgets. Although Tigers are financially safe, Chelmsford have withdrawn from the EPL, as Solihull did last season. "For several seasons we have seen teams' costs rising as they try to keep up with the biggest-spending sides," said Tigers boss Dave Candlin. "This is a wake-up call, the league should encourage teams to base their player costs on realistic budgets." But Candlin has quashed any speculation that Tigers would follow Chelmsford out of the EPL. "We in Telford have never been in a position to buy success in that way and have always built a squad within our very limited budgets," he said. "While we may not have gained silverware, we have been able to steal points from all the big teams, despite a wage bill just a fraction of theirs. "We continue to want to play our ice hockey at the highest level we can in Telford."
