Have Your Say on Epsom
Your thoughts on the 2003 Epsom Derby meeting.

Kris Kin riden by Kieren Fallon won the Derby by a length ahead of The Great Gatsby and Alamshar.

The horse gave trainer Sir Michael Stoute his third Derby victory.

Did you pick the right horse at Epsom?

I want to congratulate the whole BBC-team for their great coverage of the Derby-meeting. Once again, Jim McGrath has shown that he is a super commentator. His race was perfect.

Clare and Willie were great and on Friday after the Oaks and the victory of Casual look, we have seen the best TV-mix of sport and reality-TV.

Ian Bartlett did it also very well. He is a great commentator and perhaps he can commentate now for the last two races at Royal Ascot or also a part in next year's Grand National?

But part of the Derby itself, one of the greatest TV-moments is always the build-up with the Olympic Spirit-theme. When you hear this song and see those wonderful pictures, you're feeling the buzz of the great race. Congratulations BBC! You're the best on earth for covering horse racing!
Nicky De Frene, Waregem, Belgium

I managed to get 14-1 too, so there were many beers flowing Saturday night

After watching the Derby this year I feel cheated by the shocking ride Richard Quinn gave Norse Dancer. The horse was still placed last coming round Tattenham Corner and sprouted wings to grab fourth place. This bad ride cost me a lot of money as I had a tenner on him at 100/1 in January.

I just hope Norse Dancer and Richard Quinn meet Kris Kin again and prove that they he was truly the best horse over the derby trip. I am really looking forward to the rematch and again I will be backing 'The Dancer'!!

After watching the Belmont Stakes here in New York City, I once again realized how much good race riding we here in the States are missing. Mr Fallon's ride was one of pure confidence and sheer brilliance, evoking memories of the great Yves St Martin and Lester Pigot.

How lucky you are in the UK to have such wonderful racing and such top notch riders. Kudos to Mr Fallon and Sir Michael Stoute.
Jan Haber, New York City, USA

14/1 in the morning, a nice 50 on it. It looked a great bet after winning at Chester.
Robert Plant, Manchester

Great win for Kris Kin on Saturday, Kieren doing the business for me once again this year. I managed to get 14-1 too, so there were many beers flowing Saturday night. This is my first year following horse racing, I used to get annoyed when it interrupted the cricket, but now it is the other way round. Really is the sport of Kings!

Fallon's ride on Kris Kin was one of the best in the last 30 years
B Gannon, Maidstone, Kent

Great ride by Fallon, won it well! The fact I was on at 12s made it even better!!
G Sloan, Co. Down

Great race, but it looked to me that both Alamshar and Norse Dancer were a bit unlucky as both had to check their runs for the line as Kris Kin came across. I think the winner will have to find more to beat Dalankari if they meet in the Irish Derby.
Allister Webb, England

I think Fallon's ride on Kris Kin was one of the best in the last 30 years, I got on at 14-1 as I could not believe that the combination of Michael Stoute and Kieran Fallon was being ignored, especially after the horse's win at Chester - the hardest track to win on in the UK.
B Gannon, Maidstone, Kent

You may not believe this but I was in Jackbrowns when they announced Kris Kin may run in the Derby with Fallon on board. 33/1 at the time. You know I bit the bookie's hand off...
Richard Byrne, Birmingham

Great win for Kris Kin. Clearly a horse still improving
Adrian Smith, Wrexham

I have to admit to never having been Kieran Fallon's greatest admirer. Perched atop his admiral steed he has neither the balanced poise of Lester at his best, nor the streamlined elegance of Dettori. In fact, a 20lb sack of potatoes dressed in racing silks and strapped to a thoroughbred's back could easily be mistaken for Kieran at work!

However, Kieran's supreme display of horsemanship in the Derby aboard Kris Kin and the fact that I backed it at 12-1 means that I will no longer look at a sack of spuds in quite the same way. Kieran was simply brilliant!
David Dowsett, Australia

Great win for Kris Kin. Clearly a horse still improving. I take him to beat the Aga Khan's horse if they meet this summer. Superb ride too from Fallon. Contrast with the woeful ride Kinane gave Yesterday in the Oaks. Good job he's not French otherwise the press would have had a field day.
Adrian Smith, Wrexham

It was a great ride from Kieren Fallon because there was no clear favourite for this race. The Aga Khan should have sent Dalakhani for the Epsom Derby. There should be a match between Kris Kin and Dalakhani in Irish derby.
Abid Sultan, Rawalpindi/Pakistan

It was a wonderful race, no doubt the very best in the calendar, I am more than please as I baked the one, two and three. Can someone please tell me what year did Flying Fox won the Derby.
James Nicolas Amps, Tarvin Cheshire

I saw Kris Kin win at Chester and backed him after that for the Derby at 20-1
Tanya Harrison, Chester
What an amazing ride by Kieren Fallon. I am delighted having backed it although I wish that I had taken the early morning price! What a gamble! It has been an excellent two day meeting, I was at the Oaks and had a fantastic time! Well done Epsom!
Gez, uk

I saw Kris Kin win at Chester and backed him after that for the Derby at 20-1. It was a super win for Kieren Fallon after his problems. He's a worthy champ.
Tanya Harrison, Chester

Great Derby well done to all the team especially Clare Balding, brilliant.
Walter J. Bourne, Milton Keynes

What a win by Kris Kin and what a ride by Fallon.
Richard Dag, Wimbledon

Funny old game, racing. Yesterday and Mick Kinane benefited from Six Perfections' troubled passage at The Curragh, only to suffer the same sorry fate in The Oaks. Plus ca change.
Ajay Ramgoolam, London

Why don't the racing authorities stop all other meetings on Derby day so the race can re-establish itself in the national calendar again? This should also happen when Royal Ascot and the Cheltenham festival take place.
John Stickings, Greenwich, London

Perhaps one of the reasons the Derby no longer matters much is because over recent years, the Derby winner has been quickly retired at the end of the season - or even flogged off to Japan and you no longer see the brilliant spectacle of last year's Derby winner taking on the current year's winner as we have done previously, usually in the King George & Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Presumably, owners don't want to risk the horse's reputation as a 4 year old and despatch it off to stud as fast as possible at the end of the season. What a great pity. However, this year we do indeed have last year's Derby winner racing as a four-year-old (High Chapparel) and the thought that we might see him race against this year's winner is a mouth watering prospect which should keep us fans glued to the racing.
Victoria Wright, London, UK

And how about this for a top tip...

Although he must improve on his only run this season, at 14-1 Kris Kin looks a decent eachway bet for the Derby. His victory at Chester has been boosted somewhat by Private Charter's second place in the Italian equivalent at the Capanelle behind Osorio. Kris Kin defeated the Barry Hill's colt by an easy five lengths in the Dee Stakes.

Stoute's charge has obviously pleased in his homework to justify his supplementary entry, and if this lightly raced colt has made the improvement that one would expect from his reappearance, then he must be in the shake up for what appears to be a very open Derby. He demonstrated a nice turn of foot on the Roodee and should stay.
David Morgan, Newcastle
