Wintle fined by Jockey Club
David Wintle arrives at the Jockey Club for his hearing
Wintle tussled with TV presenter Paul Kenyon on camera
Trainer David Wintle has been fined 7,200 by the Jockey Club after he was caught out by the BBC's Kenyon Confronts TV programme.

The Jockey Club found Wintle guilty of behaving in a way that was prejudicial to the integrity of the sport.

During the TV programme the Cheltenham-based trainer was seen in a tussle with presenter Paul Kenyon at a race meeting at Stratford.

The two other trainers featured on the programme - Ferdy Murphy and Jamie Osborne - were each fined 4,000 last year for acting in a manner prejudicial to the good reputation of horseracing.

The fines were criticised by the executive producer of Kenyon Confronts, Paul Woolwich.

"The Club had a golden opportunity to show the racing public that it was going to have no truck with this sort of cheating," he said.

"But in reality it has let all these trainers off with a rather pathetic slap on the wrist.

"We fear that this rather lenient punishment will do little to reassure the public about the Club's intentions to clean up the sport and may simply offer succour to others prepared to fix races."

Wintle's fine was made up of three different parts, with 4,500 for bringing racing into disrepute.

He was also fined 2,200 for the instructions or preparation given to Seattle Alley in the races shown on Kenyon Confronts and 500 for acting in a violent and improper manner on a racecourse.

As he left the inquiry Wintle said he had no comment to make.
