Maguire weighing up future

Barton Bank: A career highlight for Maguire
Ex-top jockey Adrian Maguire says he will take time out to consider his future after injury forced him to retire from the saddle.

"I'm going to think things through and make no rush decisions," the 32-year-old told BBC Radio Five Live.

"Horses are my love and it is obviously going to be involved in horses.

"But whichever angle I decide to take, it's going to take a lot of time and a lot of thought.

"Nothing is ruled out," added Maguire, who rode 1,024 winners in his career.

The Irishman incurred a serious neck injury after falling at Warwick in March.

"The horse crumbled over - it didn't feel a bad fall, it didn't look a bad fall but I ended up with a broken neck," he said.

He had to wear a special back, neck and head brace for three months but had believed that he would return to race-riding.

However, specialists told him last week that he had to quit the sport because of the risk of future injury.

"I was looking forward to getting back and quite confident of getting back," said Maguire.

"Basically the decision was made for me with the X-rays, the scans and the views the doctors had on my neck - there was only one option."

Looking back over his career, Maguire said that he had many happy memories in the sport.

"Cool Ground winning the Gold Cup was a great day. I suppose I was a bit young to appreciate it at the time.

"One of the highlights would have been Barton Bank winning the King George. He wouldn't have been the easiest horse to ride.

"There were some great days, some great horses - a lot to remember."
