Italy's Adriano Malori triumphed in emphatic style in the men's under-23 time trial at the World Championships. The 2008 European time trial champion finished in 41 min 35.98 secs in Varese, 49.67 seconds ahead of second-placed Patrick Gretsch of Germany. Australia's Cameron Meyer, who led the standings for much of the event, had to settle for the bronze medal place, 1 min 4.36 secs behind Malori. GB's Russell Hampton came 33rd, while Alex Dowsett finished in 36th place. The Road World Championships continue on Wednesday with the elite women's time trial, building up to the blue riband event, the elite men's road race, on Sunday.
