Situated 10km from central Athens, the Faliro Coastal Zone will be the scene of competition for four sports. Beach volleyball will take place in South Attica, Faliro, while the nearby sports pavilion will host taekwondo and handball preliminary games.
The Peace and Friendship Stadium will be home to the volleyball competition.
The whole area, including the marina and the esplanade, is part of a major urban redevelopment project of the coastal zone.
A beach volleyball test event was successfully conducted in August 2003 at the newly-constructed court, which also has six training and two warm-up courts.
During the Games, matches will be floodlit and continue until late in the evening.
The Sports Pavilion is another new venue and opened with a four-nation handball tournament featuring Greece, Germany, Hungary and Egypt at the end of March.
It will also host 12 men's and eight women's goalball teams during the Paralympics.
The Peace and Friendship Stadium was originally completed in 1981 but has been renovated for the Olympics and will have a total capacity of 14,000 seats.
