The European gold was Walsh's first major international win |
Campbell Walsh believes he is capable of landing an Olympic gold medal in Beijing this summer. The Glasgow-born slalom specialist proved his form by becoming European Champion in Krakow this month. And the Athens silver medallist said: "I'd like to win. It is a realistic aim. But it's by no means certain that the outcome's going to be that. "There are equally about five, six or seven guys in the world capable of doing that." Walsh will lead a three-man squad to China in August, all of whom hail from Scotland. And, despite visiting the Olympic venue for a test event last year, the 30-year-old is eager to take in the culture on his next visit. "When I'm competing, all I mostly see is the actual competitive venue and the walls of my hotel room," he admitted. "I don't get to see much of the city. But I did do one day's sight-seeing at the Great Wall and that is truly fantastic."
