Priaulx writes off title chances

World Touring Car Championship

Guernsey's Andy Priaulx has written off a fifth straight title after four races in the World Touring Car Championship.

Priaulx, who secured his fourth FIA Championship in 2007, says his BMW can not compete with the SEATs this season.

The SEATs are using turbo diesel engines and were a second a lap quicker than any BMW in Mexico.

"At the moment there is absolutely no chance to win the championship unless the rules become more equal again," Priaulx said.

At the end of the day I've just got to get my head down, keep driving really well and leave the politics to the big boys

"All I can do is drive my heart out every weekend and I'm massively motivated and lets keep ourselves in with a chance and if the FIA try to equalise the rules again then it puts me in with a good chance to win but if not I've just got to be the best BMW and that's all I can do."

Guernsey's three-time world touring car champion has called on the sports governing body to make the championship a level playing field again.

"Whenever BMW were one tenth of a second too competitive we either had extra ballast or we had to take some sort of performance reduction.

"Obviously I'm expecting the same kind of reaction from the FIA but they've been a lot slower to react for SEAT than they have been for BMW."

"I think that it's political, I think that at the end of the day I've just got to get my head down, keep driving really well and leave the politics to the big boys."
