Gordon quits motorsport showdown
Jeff Gordon
Gordon has had to cancel a trip to Europe because of illness
US legend Jeff Gordon has pulled out of this weekend's Race of Champions, a showdown in Paris between many of motorsport's biggest stars.

Gordon, a four-time Nascar champion, has been hit by flu and will be replaced by countryman Casey Mears.

The event will feature the world champions of Formula One and rallying, Michael Schumacher and Sebastien Loeb, and a host of other stars.

Colin McRae and David Coulthard are among the other big names taking part.

Sixteen rally drivers and racing drivers will compete in a series of knockout heats in their own division to determine their class champion.

The winner of each will then go head-to-head in the final.
