Hole 10 at Augusta

Years ago, the 10th used to be the first hole, until the nines were reversed. It is a dogleg downhill, and I think one of the most beautiful holes on the course.

It has got a big, swinging fairway and if you are long enough you can get it down onto a flat bit, but if not you are stuck on the slope, which does not make it easy.

The green drops away on the left hand side, there is a big bunker on the right and trees all around.

When the later starters get there, big shadows are cast across the green, making finding the flag and judging the distance difficult.

Miss on the left and you have got a very difficult chip up. And, again, if you are in the wrong spot, the green can be treacherous.

2010 rank: 3rd hardest (stroke ave. 4.26)

All-time rank (1942-2010): 1st (4.32)
