Phil Mickelson is arguably the best player in the world after his heroics in the major tournaments this year. The Masters champion is playing with a winner's philosophy which, coupled with four Ryder Cups caps, will make him one of the key figures at Oakland Hills.
The 34-year-old made his debut in 1995 and has since won eight games and halved three in 16 matches.
Mickelson has won three out of four singles matches but was sensationally beaten by Wales' Phil Price in 2002.
The left-hander has enjoyed a stunning season with his Masters triumph over Ernie Els at Augusta followed by second at the US Open at Shinnecock Hills, third at the Open Championship at Royal Troon and tied sixth at the USPGA at Whistling Straits.
Mickelson announced his arrival on the world stage as a talented amateur at the Walker Cup matches in 1989 and 1991.
He won his first US Tour event as an amateur in 1991 and has won 23 times overall in America.
