Sorenstam will take on the men in Texas |
World number one Annika Sorenstam warmed up for her PGA Tour challenge by completing a nine-stroke victory in the Nichirei Cup.
The 32-year-old Swede, who will become the first woman to take on the men on the PGA Tour in 58 years at the 22-25 May Colonial tournament in Texas, made six birdies in a final-round 68 to finish on 13-under-par.
"Winning here gives me confidence for the Colonial," said Sorenstam, who picked up just over $92,000 for her fifth victory in Japan.
"I just tried to stay focused all day and was aiming for 15 under. But it was nice to finish with a low score. My main goal this season is to win majors and if the Colonial helps in reaching that goal, all the better."
Sorenstam, who won 13 titles in 2002, did well to save par at the second hole and birdied the next two to set the tone for her last competitive round before the Colonial, in Fort Worth.
Defending Nichirei Cup champion Yuri Fudo produced a 69 in the final round to tie for second, alongside former Japanese number one Michiko Hattori and four others.
