Viduka led the team in their qualifying play-off |
Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka has been named Australia's captain for the World Cup by coach Guus Hiddink. Viduka, 30, who was captain for the play-off win over Uruguay, takes over from usual captain Craig Moore, who is concentrating on regaining fitness.
"He did very well in the qualifying rounds and took his responsibility very seriously," said Hiddink.
"It is more convenient for Craig as he comes back to concentrate on getting his role in the team of 23."
Australia are in Group F, alongside Brazil, Croatia and Japan, who are their first opponents on 12 June.
The team play their first pre-tournament friendly against Greece in Melbourne on Thursday, followed by games against Holland and Liechtenstein.
