Scunthorpe United have rejected a 450,000 bid from Burnley for 21-year-old Northern Ireland striker Martin Paterson.
The former Stoke trainee registered 14 goals this season despite his side being relegated from the Championship.
"I can confirm we have received an offer in writing from Burnley," Scunthorpe acting chairman Rex Garton told BBC Radio Humberside.
"The answer is that it's rejected. Martin is not for sale."
Clarets boss Owen Coyle admitted to BBC Radio Lancashire that Paterson is just one of many players he is looking at.
"There's probably five other offers we have got in. Obviously I am not in a position to talk about them as we are still awaiting replies back from the respective clubs.
"But we are working around the clock to try and entice some talented footballers to this football club."
