Preston boss Paul Simpson has returned to former club Carlisle United to sign striker Karl Hawley. Hawley has agreed a three-year deal at Preston, who are resigned to losing England international David Nugent.
The 25-year-old told Preston's website: "It's a big move for me and I'm looking forward to working with Paul again."
Hawley, who was out of contract at Carlisle, scored 51 goals in 137 appearances for the Cumbrians, who signed him from Walsall in July 2004.
