Newcastle midfielder Hugo Viana has returned to his old club Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan deal. The 21-year-old has been unhappy at St James' Park and narrowly missed out on a move back to his native country when a switch to Porto collapsed.
Viana has slipped down the pecking order at Newcastle after initially sparkling when Sir Bobby Robson brought him to the club for 8.5m in 2002.
He is the second midfielder to leave Newcastle this summer after Gary Speed.
