Middlesbrough utility man Matthew Bates has signed a new three-year contract tying him to the club until 2012.
Bates, who can play in defence or midfield, made 17 Premier League appearances for the club last season.
The 22-year-old had been linked to a move away from the Riverside and chief executive Keith Lamb was pleased at Bates' decision to stay.
"We are delighted Matthew has decided to commit his future to Middlesbrough," Lamb confirmed.
