Ma-Kalambay moved to Hibs from Chelsea last summer
Hibs will be without Yves Ma-Kalambay for the start of the new season after the goalkeeper was called up for Belgium's Olympic squad.
The 22-year-old will miss friendlies against Barcelona, Clyde, Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic and at least the first three SPL outings.
Manager Mixu Paatelainen can call upon Andrew McNeil, David Grof and Zbigniew Malkowski but may look for cover.
"We might go for a half-year loan," he told the Edinburgh Evening News.
"We need to look at our options and which goalkeepers are available."
Hibs fielded a trialist goalkeeper in Tuesday's warm-up game with Raith Rovers and he kept a clean-sheet in a 0-0 draw at Stark's Park.
Two other trialists featured in the game; an unnamed central defender and Joe Keenan, a left-back who began his career at Chelsea.
"Joe is a very, very good player and in the last 10-15 minutes his legs started to go which shows how long it takes to get match fit, nobody is yet," Paatelainen told the club website.
"Joe put in a hell of a lot of passes and he is a good footballer.
"The goalkeeper made some good saves, he came off his line well, his distribution was okay and he put in a good performance all round.
"The defender I thought was very solid, he did excellent and you can see that he is a quality player.
"I was pleased with his performance as well and I moved him forward in the second half as I tried to assess how he looked in midfield and he can certainly play that position as well."
