John Hughes praised Alan Gow and Patrick Cregg |
John Hughes was not able to fully enjoy Falkirk's win over SPL leaders Celtic as he defended his side's disciplinary record after Carl Finnigan's red card. "It's a contact sport still isn't it?" said the head coach after the 1-0 win.
"Once again, we got three or four players booked and one sent off and I think we're getting called in front of the SFA for our disciplinary record.
"But I'd like to think we've got a case as some of the sendings-off we've had recently beggar belief."
Indeed, the Bairns were successful in their appeal against the red card shown to Dean Holden the previous weekend.
Holden was able to play his part against Celtic, but it was Dublin-born midfielder Patrick Cregg and Rangers-bound forward Alan Gow who received most praise from Hughes.
"I felt, in the second half, Gowser holding it up was fantastic and wee Patrick Cregg epitomises everything we're all about at Falkirk," he said.
"He got man-of-the-match and he's so humble he doesn't want to come and collect it, because I think he's a wee Celtic supporter.
"One or two back in Ireland will be on the phone to him.
"I think we were hanging on in the second half, but we're allowed to do that."
