Derby County manager Paul Jewell has started his squad rebuilding by making Plymouth Argyle full-back Paul Connolly his first summer signing.

The 24-year-old defender was out of contract at Home Park and has joined the Rams on a free transfer.

Jewell told BBC Radio Derby: "It might not get people jumping off seats as far as names are concerned but he's athletic, hungry, and a fighter.

"That's what I want to bring - as well as some quality, which he has got."

Connolly progressed through the youth ranks with the Pilgrims and has played more than 150 games for the club.
