Match winner Gary McCutcheon kisses the Co-operative Insurance Cup
Portadown boss Ronnie McFall praised his players after the 1-0 win over Newry City in Saturday's Co-Operative Insurance Cup final at Morneview Park.
"We're delighted - the players have been magnificent considering what they've been through this season and I'm really happy for them," he said.
"The game was a bit scrappy, the pitch wasn't the best and while they hit the woodwork twice we missed open goals.
"It's a bonus that by winning this we are now in the Setanta Cup."
Portadown dropped into the Championship last season because of an adminstrative error but they are favourites to make an immediate return to the top flight.
Gary McCutcheon scored the only goal on the half-hour mark while midfielder Wesley Boyle secured the man-of-the-match award.
McFall added: "Football should be played on the pitch and not in the offices - it's not the players' fault we are in the Championship but we've got to make sure we get out of it.
"McCutcheon is a natural finisher and he's been doing that since he came to the club.
"Wesley Boyle joined the club when he was 15 and returned after he got a bad injury with Leeds United. He is an outstanding talent."
It is McFall's 30th trophy success in an outstanding managerial career.
