Sanchez and Beasant were 1988 cup winners with Wimbledon |
Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez has recruited two former Wimbledon team-mates to his backroom staff. Sanchez has appointed Dave Beasant as goalkeeping coach and has also asked Terry Gibson to help out.
Gibson was assistant manager to Sanchez at Wycombe Wanderers and is still with the Division Two strugglers.
Beasant, who starred with Sanchez in the 1988 cup final win over Liverpool and also played for Chelsea, is goalkeeing coach at Fulham.
Sanchez contacted Fulham and Wycombe to ask for Gibson and Beasant to be released for international duties.
Now the clubs have agreed, Beasant and Gibson will team up with former Northern Ireland forward Gerry Armstrong, already appointed as assistant to Sanchez.
Defender Gibson also played in Wimbledon's famous cup final win over Liverpool and also had spells with Tottenham, Manchester United and Coventry.
Sanchez takes charge of Northern Ireland for the first time in a friendly against Norway in Belfast on 18 February.
