| | Marks out of 10 for England after their World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan. England Paul Robinson - 7: Made two excellent second-half saves to ensure that England avoided the ignominy of conceding, otherwise had little to do. Gary Neville - 6: Supported David Beckham in attack as often as possible. Had almost nothing to do in defence and little chance to impress. Ashley Cole - 6: Tried to support namesake Joe whenever possible. Delivered some brilliant crosses from deep but again had a quiet night. John Terry - 6: Terrible error early on almost led to a goal, but pushed forward as often as possible and threatened at set-pieces. Rio Ferdinand - 6: As with most of the England defence, Ferdinand saw more of the ball when he was pushing forward to join up with the attack. Steven Gerrard - 7: Once again not at his imposing best. Too many stray passes, but got the all-important goal that set England on their way. Frank Lampard - 7: Not afraid to shoot at goal and smashed the post, but after a characteristically strong start faded as the match wore on. David Beckham - 8 (STAR MAN): Delivered countless crosses - some good, some not. Not vintage Beckham but took his goal with aplomb. Joe Cole - 6: Not nearly as influential as against Northern Ireland on Saturday. Still delivered some excellent crosses and telling through balls. Wayne Rooney - 7: Could have netted a hat-trick inside 15 minutes. Went deep in search of the ball and almost scored with a truly spectacular volley. Michael Owen - 5: Numerous chances came his way. Headed wide when completely unmarked late in the first half - perhaps the story of his night. SubstitutesKieron Dyer (Replaced Wayne Rooney, 77 minutes) - 5: Involved straight away but did not have much opportunity to catch the eye.
Ledley King (Replaced Rio Ferdinand, 77 minutes) - 5: As with Ferdinand, King had no real defending to do and little chance to push forward. Jermain Defoe (Replaced David Beckham, 84 minutes) - 5: The Spurs player made a couple of runs but the ball did not run for him.
