Alexander Frei will lead the Swiss line at Euro 2004 after a prolific season with French club Rennes. His five goals for Switzerland in qualifying were instrumental in helping the side finish top of a tough group.
A journeyman in his early career, Rennes is Frei's fifth professional club after spells at Basle, Thun, Luzern and Servette.
Frei's pace and power are the ideal complement to veteran strike-partner Stephane Chapuisat's guile.
His goal-poaching ability has seen him score 18 times in his first 27 caps.
Frei finished second in France's goalscoring charts this season, behind Liverpool-bound Djibril Cisse, with 19 goals.
