Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari admitted his relief at seeing his side play a quicker style of football to keep alive their Euro 2004 hopes.

"The performance of the entire team was good," Scolari said.

"The players were trying to score another goal, they were playing in a different way from normal, making quick passes and moving the ball out wide.

"Playing for two goals or playing for 10 goals, it doesn't matter, it's the same thing," Scolari added.

Maniche put Portugal ahead with an early goal but it was not until the 89th minute that victory was secured by substitute Rui Costa's strike.

Scolari defended the four changes he made to the side that lost to Greece on Saturday after he dropped Paulo Ferreira, captain Fernando Couto, Rui Jorge and Rui Costa from his starting 11.

"There was no revolution. I just made a few changes," he explained.

The win has set up a tense finale against Iberian rivals Spain, a game Portugal need to win if Scolari's side are to progress to the last eight.

"There isn't even time to think, not even time to imagine what is going to happen," said the former Brazil coach.

"Now it's living this moment in the dressing room, talking a bit with the players and seeing where we made errors because Spain are very worthy opponents."
