Latvia have got absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

Just getting to the tournament was achievement enough - remember they beat an impressive Turkey side in the play-offs to book their place.

And Germany and the Czech Republic will certainly remember them, if no-one else does.

They were the epitome of doggedness against the Germans in a dull stalemate and made Czech fans' hearts skip a beat by leading until the 72nd minute.

Even if asked now, few people could name more than one Latvian but that shows up their greatest asset.

They played as a team and gelled throughout, even if their star quality was never likely to halt the Dutch in their final group game.
