Italy out after the group stages - I for one never envisaged it happening.
When you look at their results - a win and two draws from their three games -you have to think they were seriously unlucky in the end.
But they shouldn't have put themselves in that position in the first place. With their players they were good enough to beat both Denmark and Sweden.
Sadly, they came out as they do at most major tournaments, playing tight but conservative football.
Only twice - in the opening half against Sweden and that final half-hour against Latvia - did they look like producing anything special.
A lot of their old heads can go home feeling gutted with the team's failure.
