 | ITALY 2-1 BULGARIA |
Italian coach Giovanni Trapattoni praised his team after their 2-1 win over Bulgaria despite the fact that they were eliminated from Euro 2004. "We leave with our heads held high, especially because we deserved to win the previous match against Sweden," said Trapattoni.
"We conceded a penalty (v Bulgaria) but I saw a couple of fouls that could have given us a chance to equalise."
The 62-year-old said he would not be resigning as Italy's coach.
But he added: "My contract with the Italian Football Federation ends on 15 July and the future opens many doors."
"I am satisfied with my players' performance and with the work they have done (against Bulgaria)," said Trapattoni.
"I don't want to judge the referee but there were several bad fouls on (Alessandro) Del Piero," he added.
"We have done our job tonight but unfortunately it was not enough considering the result from the other game.
"But unfortunately the other group results have not favoured us."
