Played three, lost three, goals for - one, goals against - nine. The statistics pretty much say it all.

The boys from Bulgaria looked sprightly to start with against Sweden and were unlucky not to find the target.

But once the goals poured in from the likes of Henrik Larsson, it was pretty much game over.

Not since the days of Hristo Stoichkov have they looked a force to be reckoned with, although in Stilian Petrov, they have someone of world class.

I was in the overwhelming majority when I said Bulgaria would struggle to oust any of Italy, Sweden and Denmark in their group.

And never did they make me nervous my prediction would go up the spout.
