Smith has played in 136 one-day internationals since his debut in 2002 |
Skipper Graeme Smith returns from injury to lead South Africa in the five-match one-day international series with Australia starting on 3 April. Smith, 28, missed the one-day games in Australia earlier this year after his finger was broken when it was hit by a delivery from Mitchell Johnson. And he was struck again by the seamer during the second Test in Durban. Smith will not feature in two Twenty20 games on Friday and Sunday, but paceman Morne Morkel is handed a recall. Morkel was left out of the final Test after being criticised for his wayward line, but took five wickets in three matches against the Australians when South Africa won the one-day series 4-1 down under earlier this year. Having lost the Test series that could have seen them replace Australia as the world's top-ranked team, they gained some momentum by capturing the final match of the series by an innings and 20 runs in Cape Town on Sunday. Out-of-form batsman Neil McKenzie and left-arm pace bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe, who is recovering from knee surgery, are not included. The selection is intended to cover the first two 50-over matches and South Africa selection convenor Mike Procter explained that changes may be made to the squad. "It is possible that we will add other players to the squad depending on performances in the two Pro20 matches this weekend," he said.
South Africa squad: Graeme Smith (capt), Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Albie Morkel, Mark Boucher (wk), Morne Morkel, Johan Botha, Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini, Hashim Amla, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Wayne Parnell.
