Flintoff and Brunt were instrumental in winning both Ashes series |
Andrew Flintoff and Katherine Brunt have been named the Vodafone England Cricketers of the Year for 2006. Both were inspirational as England's men and women regained the Ashes after 18 years and 42 years respectively.
Flintoff scored 402 runs and took 24 wickets in five Tests while seam bowler Brunt took 14 wickets in just two.
Vodafone chairman Lord MacLaurin said: "Cricket is special to the British public and both were instrumental in ensuring England emerged victorious."
Flintoff, who has since gone on to captain the England team in Michael Vaughan's absence, said: "It is a great honour.
"It's been a fantastic year for English cricket and I'm very proud to been able to play a part in regaining the Ashes.
"I'm now looking forward to building on this success as we head towards another Ashes series and a World Cup campaign this winter."
Brunt said: "I'm very honoured to have won this award and I'm delighted to have been able to play my part in ensuring we regained the Ashes."
