The talented Will Jefferson hit 1,555 runs in 2004 for Essex |
Nottinghamshire have completed the signing of former Essex batsman Will Jefferson on a three-year contract. Notts were looking for an opening bat to replace the retired Darren Bicknell and Jefferson, the 6ft 10" 26-year-old, needed a new club after being released.
"He is a well-established player with plenty of first-class experience," Notts supremo Mike Newell explained.
Jefferson, who hit 222 against Hants in 2004, said: "I'm looking forward to justifying the faith shown in me."
The 2006 campaign has been difficult for Jefferson, who damaged 70% of the tendons in his wrist pushing it through a bathroom window in a freak pre-season accident.
He averages close to 40 in 67 first-class matches, scoring 11 centuries, but found opportunities limited at Essex this term.
"My hand is now 100% healed," he said. "I was very cautious during the recovery period, sticking to all the medical instructions, and I'm pleased to say that there are no side effects."
Newell added: "I've been very aware of Will for the past four years and I can see his career really kicking on when he joins us next season."
It continues a period of transition at Trent Bridge, with Anurag Singh and Russell Watson released and Greg Smith also set to leave the club.
