Cork will add depth to the Lancashire squad |
Lancashire have pulled off a major coup by agreeing a three-year contract with former England Test star Dominic Cork. The 32-year-old is moving to Old Trafford after 14 seasons with Derbyshire, the last six as captain.
"I am delighted to be joining Lancashire. They have had a great season this year, and I feel sure that the county will go on to greater things," he commented.
Cork took 131 wickets in 37 Tests for England, the last of them in 2002.
The signing signals Lancashire's intent to win the County Championship outright for the first time since 1934 - they shared the title with Surrey in 1950.
They finished as runners-up to Sussex this summer, but the recruitment of Cork will add depth to their bowling attack and middle order batting.

He was released from his contract by Derbyshire by mutual consent, even though it had two years still to run, and Lancashire chairman Jack Simmons was quick to declare an interest in him.
"It is not often a player of Dominic's proven ability comes on to the market, and I am delighted that he has shown a real desire to join us and add strength to our first team squad," Simmons commented.
Cork has taken 722 first-class wickets during his career and 285 in one-day cricket.
His batting ability is sometimes under-rated, but he has made more than 10,000 runs in all competitions, with a career best score of 200 not out against Durham in 2000.
