Match scorecard

Will Porterfield
Porterfield has now scored four first-class centuries in his career

Will Porterfield scored his second Championship century in 12 days before Gloucestershire suffered a batting collapse on day one against Northants.

Porterfield, who hit a career-best 175 earlier this month, crashed 23 boundaries in his 150 off 245 balls.

The Ireland captain shared a second-wicket partnership of 219 with Chris Dent (92) as the visitors were 242-1.

But Lee Daggett (4-57) and Jack Brooks (3-63) reduced Gloucestershire to 302 all out, Northants then closing on 4-2.

Stephen Peters fell to Gemaal Hussain for one, while Jon Lewis got rid of James Middlebrook for the same score.

Northants won the toss and asked Gloucestershire to bat and the decision initially reaped its rewards, as Jonathan Batty fell for two, lbw to Brooks in the sixth over.

Dent joined Porterfield at the crease and the latter scored a run-a-ball 50, while Dent reached his half-century off 103 balls.

The hosts' attack continued to toil in the sun and Porterfield went on to reach three figures off 154 balls.

The stand was broken with the last ball before tea, when Dent missed his attempted sweep and was bowled by Middlebrook to start the Gloucestershire collapse, as the last nine wickets fell for the addition of only 60 runs.

The visitors' captain Alex Gidman made just a single before becoming the only wicket for Zimbabwe international Elton Chigumbura.

Porterfield's excellent innings was finally ended when he edged Brooks to David Sales at second slip in the first over after the new ball was taken.

Two balls later Daggett sent James Franklin's off stump tumbling and Steve Snell soon followed for a six-ball duck when he edged Daggett to Sales in the slips.

Ed Young, Jon Lewis and David Murphy all fell cheaply, before Steve Kirby was the last wicket to fall as Gloucestershire were dismissed for 302.
