Compton has scored 399 first-class runs this season

Nick Compton (82) top-scored for Middlesex as they took control of their County Championship match with Northants on day two at Lord's.

Compton put on 167 for the first wicket with Sam Robson (75), who is playing in only his third first-class match.

Eoin Morgan also chipped in with 71, but Nicky Boje (2-49) led a fightback for Northants as Middlesex lost four wickets for 46 runs.

Earlier, Northants did not add to their overnight score and were 288 all out.
