Totesport League D1, Colwyn Bay: Glamorgan 219-5 (40.2 overs) beat Lancashire 218-7 (45 overs) by five wickets David Harrison celebrates a wicket on the way to victory |
Glamorgan claimed their third Totesport League title in 11 years with two games remaining after a five-wicket victory over nearest rivals Lancashire. Even a tie would have been enough but the Dragons topped Lancashire's 218-7 with five overs to spare at Colwyn Bay.
Captain Robert Croft took the home side off at a brisk pace, hitting 106 from 118 balls, and Matthew Maynard made 63.
Lancashire had recovered from 38-3 thanks to Dinesh Mongia's 58 and 48 from Chris Schofield.
Glamorgan, who misses leading one-day run scorer Matthew Elliott because of a swollen knee, suffered a mini wobble when they lost Alex Wharf and Mike Powell in the space of an over.

But the experience of Croft and Maynard shone through on a gloomy afternoon at the small north Wales ground in front of 5,000 celebrating fans. This was Glamorgan's 11th win in 13 Totesport League outings this season.
The Welsh county were without first-choice strike bowlers Michael Kasprowicz and the injured Andrew Davies but their deputies - debutant Mick Lewis and David Harrison - did a more than a useful job.
Harrison removed pinch-hitter Dominic Cork and Mark Chilton in the space of three balls.
Darren Thomas claimed the key wicket, however, when Carl Hooper drove him down the throat of long-off.
But Lancs recovered and Mongia had reached a 69-ball half-century before he was brilliantly caught by David Hemp at short extra cover off Croft
And the off-spinner struck two overs later to remove Schofield before putting on the pads.
