Fifth one-day international, Dubai: South Africa 317-5 (50 overs) beat Pakistan 260 (44.5 ovs) by 57 runs Match scorecard
Important runs and wickets for the hugely experienced Jacques Kallis |
Veteran all-rounder Jacques Kallis played a big role as South Africa won the final one-day international against Pakistan to claim the series 3-2. Kallis top-scored in a huge total of 317-5, making 83 from 95 balls. Pakistan, whose plans were thrown into disarray by the sudden abscondment of Zulqarnain Haider, were all out for 260 in 44.5 overs, Kallis taking 3-30. Umar Akmal, the emergency wicketkeeper for Pakistan, top-scored with 60 after Mohammad Hafeez had hit a quick 59. But in the face of such a taxing chase, Pakistan needed partnerships throughout their innings. And after Hafeez and Shahzaib Hasan had added a bright 82 in 12.2 overs, they failed to achieve that goal as five wickets fell in barely 10 overs for the addition of just 37 runs. | 606: DEBATE |
After Zulqarnain abandoned the squad in circumstances that were not fully explained to fly to England, Akmal was called on to keep wicket. But his major contribution was with the bat, as he featured in stands with Shahid Afridi (24) and Abdul Razzaq (39) that gave Pakistan an outsider's chance. That was until Robin Peterson (3-42) backed up the early incisions supplied by Kallis to ensure there would be no grandstand finish. South Africa were much the better of the two teams in the field, and had also produced the outstanding team batting performance of the series. Hashim Amla (62) was the early spur, Kallis and AB de Villiers (61) produced the major partnership of 121, and JP Duminy (59 not out off 41 balls) produced some exquisite hitting towards the end of the innings.
