Author John Lazenby writes this great read through finding his grandfather's inspiring letters dating back to the 1897-8 Ashes tour.

His grandfather was the Kent and England cricketer, J R Mason.

Lazenby retraces his grandfather's journey, providing a voyage of discovery as he passes through Australian cities to remote towns.

During his travels he discovered a wealth of memorabilia and anecdotes, and also the young man who became his much-loved but sometimes enigmatic grandfather.
