Cook to captain England Youth
Essex batsman Alastair Cook will captain England at the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh next month.

Cook replaced Nottinghamshire's Samit Patel as skipper after the arrival of new coach Andy Pick.

The tournament opens on 15 February, with England taking on Nepal in Dhaka, and the final is on 5 March.

"To represent your country is an honour but to lead it is fantastic and I'm just looking forward to the challenge," Cook told the Essex website.

"It was a surprise but obviously I'm delighted and am looking forward to going out there to win the World Cup."

Australia are the current holders after their victory in New Zealand two years ago.

England last won the competition in South Africa in 1998.

England U19 squad: Alastair Cook (capt), Samit Patel, Ravinder Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Dan Broadbent, Steven Davies, Adam Harrison, James Hildreth, Mark Lawson, Tom New (wkt), Liam Plunkett, David Stiff, Mark Turner, Luke Wright
