Bond is the spearhead of the New Zealand attack |
New Zealand paceman Shane Bond will miss the home series against Pakistan because of continuing back problems. He has not played international cricket since a stress fracture in Sri Lanka seven months ago.
Bond recently attempted a comeback in club cricket but experienced discomfort and was sent for a scan.
"It has shown there is increases sclerosis and stress where the bone is re-forming," said New Zealand medical co-ordinator Warren Frost.
"The scan does not show any new fracture or a refracture of the old injury," Frost added.
"Shane will be monitored weekly but injuries in this area are slow healing and I would not expect him to be available for any part of the Pakistan series."
Bond has taken 43 wickets in 10 Test appearances and 51 in 27 one-day internationals, the latter at a cost of only 19 runs each, since making his debut against Australia in 2001.
He is the third-fastest bowler in world cricket, behind only Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee in terms of speed.
But he has been dogged by injury problems and was out of cricket for five months prior to the World Cup because of a stress fracture in his foot.
No timetable has been set for his recovery, but he will now hope to return for the series against South Africa in February.
Pakistan will play two Tests, the first starting in Hamilton on 19 December, and five one-day internationals during their tour.
The Kiwis are looking for revenge after an under-strength side was whitewashed 5-0 in a one-day series in Pakistan which ended on Sunday.
All-rounder Chris Cairns has warned Pakistan that they can expect a much tougher contest.
"I think that there will be more questions asked of Pakistani batsmen," he said.
"The conditions are totally different because the ball moves a lot and the way Pakistani batsmen played under their conditions will not be the same."
