Joe Calzaghe is the reigning BBC Wales Sports Personality |
Joe Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren says the Welsh boxer deserves to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Calzaghe scooped the BBC Wales award 12 months ago but missed out on the UK crown as equestrian world champion Zara Phillips won the public vote.
But, after he beat Mikkel Kessler in Cardiff in the early hours of Sunday, Warren says Calzaghe should win.
"He's 10 years undefeated as a world champion, which is a record for a British fighter," Warren said.
"Why shouldn't he be voted Sports Personality of the Year? You've got to be a winner to do it and Joe is a winner.

Calzaghe's epic win over Kessler will be shown in its entirety on BBC One at 1310 GMT this Saturday.
"He's on the BBC and the reason we've done that is because we want the rest of the public who didn't watch it on (pay satellite channel) Setanta to get a look at the fight and see what a superb night it was," Warren added.
"Fifty thousand people showed up in the Millennium Stadium for it, more than you probably get for most Premier League football games - phenomenal!"
The BBC award is not the only honour that Warren thinks Calzaghe deserves.
Calzaghe will meet the Prince of Wales at Cardiff Castle on Wednesday, with Warren suggesting a return invitation to Buckingham Palace for a knighthood should be considered.
"Why should Joe have to wait until he is 100 to be knighted?" Warren said.
"He has done something no British boxer has done - remain undefeated for 10 years to be up there in such exalted company.
"He is the longest reigning current world champion. What more has he got to do?"
