Irish featherweight Barry McGuigan tops the list of 2005 inductees to boxing's international Hall of Fame. McGuigan sprang to world fame in 1985 when he beat Panama's Eusebio Pedroza to become WBA champion.
He defended his title twice before losing to Steve Cruz in a savage Las Vegas bout that saw him hospitalised.
"McGuigan was a two-fisted puncher who infatuated his countrymen with his spirited and gutsy style," said boxing historian Hank Kaplan, a voting member.
This year's induction ceremony will be held at Canastota, New York, on 12 June.
And featherweight Bobby Chacon, welterweight Duilio Loi and light middleweight "Terrible" Terry Norris will also be admitted to the Hall of Fame, as well as writer Burt Sugar.
