Jade Jones: Gold medallist could be most successful ever, says her coach

Jade Jones could go down in history as Britain's greatest taekwondo athlete, says GB coach Paul Green.

The 23-year-old from Flint became a double Olympic gold medallist when she defended her -57kg title in Rio.

A delighted Jones paid tribute to Green's role in her success after beating Spain's Eva Calvo Gomez in the final while he called her "fantastic".

"She's the most successful British athlete in taekwondo in history, and probably ever will be," Green said.

"She delivers under pressure, she's done it again.

"Her achievement is fantastic - double Olympic champion. She's done everything."

Jones' victory took Team GB's gold medal tally to 22 and means Welsh athletes have won a record four golds in Rio.

She is also the first Welsh athlete to successfully defend an Olympic title in an individual event.

Jones was just 19 years old when she claimed the gold medal at London 2012, and won the 2015 European Games and 2016 European championship titles.

The top-ranked Briton had to battle through four fights on Thursday to retain her Olympic crown.

She comfortably beat Morocco's Naima Bakkal with a 12-4 victory before a 7-2 success against Raheleh Asemani of Belgium in the quarter-finals.

Her dominance continued with a 9-4 win over Sweden's Nikita Glasnovic in the semi-final before beating world number two Calvo Gomez 16-7 in the final.
